When the people of Thomasville say that our city has something to offer to everyone, we really mean it. And few celebrations showcase this more perfectly than the annual Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival.
When you think of the South and food, a number of tasty recipes no doubt come to mind. But no matter if your main dish is fried chicken or barbecued pork, and regardless of whether you have cornbread or grits for a side, chances are you’re going to cap your delicious meal off with pecans.
At the corner of Monroe and Crawford Streets, in Elisabeth Ireland Poe Park, you’ll find Thomasville’s oldest resident. This particular local is 68 feet tall and is over 330 years old. If you guessed that this illustrious Thomasville inhabitant is the massive tree known affectionately as the Big Oak, then you’d be right! And if you’re in Thomasville, it’s a must-see attraction.
If you ever wondered what it would have been like to experience Christmas in the olden times, Thomasville has the perfect festival for you! For a couple of days in early December, our historic downtown transforms itself into a turn-of-the-last-century event known as Victorian Christmas.
